Way to go "Team Encore" (Susie Wiedman, Nancy Love, Sally Vivrette) - winners of the 2009 NCDCTA Harvest Moon Pro-Am Championship!
Team Encore - 2009 NCDCTA Harvest Moon Pro-Am Champions
Team Encore rocked the house at the Harvest Moon NCDCTA Championships in Williamston November 14-15, 2009! A Noreaster blew wind, rain and cold temps through NC Tues-Sat, limiting schooling early in the week and making for a challenging schooling environment at the show. Bad weather couldn't keep Team Encore out of the ribbons and winners circle. Sally and Flash (soon to be "Flashtastic") were the stars of the weekend and anchor of the ProAm team. In addition to winning the AA Training Level Championship, the pair also snagged a 71.6 and a win in a Training 4 class, earning their first qualifying score of the season. It's hard to believe they have only been a pair for a few months. Kathy and Murano surged to second place in the AA Third Level Championship after getting a 64.8 in the Third 2 class on Sunday. It was a lovely test. Susie and Minerva were in a tight race for the Third Level Open Championship, but a 70.0 by Laura Pendleton and Vico on Sunday just pushed Laura in the lead. Congrats to all Championship winners.

Susie, Sally, and Nancy were "Team Encore", Diana Hoberecht, Kathy, and Rhonda Dretel were "The Dream Team", and Amanda Miller, Tanya Horning, and Suzanna Stevens were the "Green Goddesses" in the ProAm Challenge. Sally's pair of 71s pushed Team Encore to the top of the leader board for the win! NCDCTA provided nice prizes including Dover Saddlery gift certificates. However, the real motivation to win was the 4pack of Patron graciously provided by Pat Horning - recent birthday boy and official Team Encore show bartender. In addition, he created a perpetual Patron Cup trophy - stop by Susie's office to see what you can try and win in 2010. Much smack talk ensued before and during the competition, but "Team Encore" shall be dividing the bottles of fine tequila...Note the winning team celebrating their win after a glass or two of said tequila ;-).

Although just out of the ribbons with a 7th place finish for the AA Training Level Championships, Nancy and Curt had a good weekend with scores ranging from 62.4 - 64.4. In addition, they received their first qualifying score for the season. Curt was a bit overwhelmed on Fri and Sat, but he was obedient and tried very hard to be brave. Nancy was proud of him. Tanya and Fidget's scores continue to improve in only their second show at first level. Fidget did a little "Washington Redskins" dressage on Sunday with Pat. Susie brought Windwalker to his first recognized show as a guest horse. He was a very good boy and enjoyed taking in all the activity around him. Diana was very successful with Elizabeth Howell's Rokstarr and her own Origami. Origami was a star in the scary horse-eating Ring 3! Rokstarr got some great scores over the weekend and was 4th in the Open Training Level Championship, Origami was 5th in the Open First Level Championships. This was one fun show and we all hope to return next year!

Kathy Connelly Symposium

NCDCTA held a Symposium with Kathy Connelly October 17-18 at Lynn Leath's Northstar Farm. It was a cold, damp and windy weekend, the first of the season. Auditors were bundled up to keep out the chill. Team Encore was well represented, as Meredith, Tanya, Mary, Nancy, Paige, Sally, and Kathy attended. Susie and Minerva were selected from many applicants to participate in the 3rd level session. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Leander became a last minute substitution. He was a superstar during the private session on Friday, but tension interfered with his brilliance over the weekend. Susie was not surprised as this is an issue she wanted to address. The Team welcomed the opportunity to learn from such a respected clinician. Thank you to NCDCTA for sponsoring these events.

NC Caravan for the Cure - 2009 Ride for Life Show

NC Caravan for the Cure Logo

NC Caravan for the Cure team had a great weekend in Maryland for the PVDA Ride for Life dressage show. Highlights included our candid meeting with Debbie McDonald, the Jill Hassler-Scoop Memorial Dancing Horse Challenge judged by Linda Zang, the "Parisian Masquerade" themed Gala, and the announcement that we had raised $20,200 for Johns Hopkins. It was a fun-filled weekend for the team! Our own Grace Dalrymple, a founding member of the NC Caravan for the Cure, was memorialized during the Dancing Horse Challenge at this year's event.

UPDATE: A very nice article about NC Caravan for the Cure written by Pat Artimovich was featured in the recent PVDA newsletter. Click here to see the great article on pages 12-13.
